The ancients taught: “transform your life one day before you die”*. How do we know which day will be our last? In the worst case, we can but assume it will be tomorrow. Thus, transformation must happen today. As I watch the clock counting down to my current USA visa expiring, I am frightfully aware that every day counts. There is a tv poster for How To Make It in America which reads “Dream Big or Go Home”. A romantic sentiment, but after four years of living in Los Angeles I have discovered that it is a city full of dreamers. Dreams are not enough; action is necessary. The Kabbalists called this world the Sphere of Action**. Dreams can only be created by getting our hands dirty. What matters if we have one day, 61 days or 101 years left on our clock? Time is the most precious commodity there is and the world’s only stable currency. Regardless of what is in our bank account, we are given just 24 hours each day. Use them well.
*Ethics of the Fathers 2:15 – I have translated the Hebrew ‘teshuva’ to mean ‘transform your life’.
**’Olam Asiyah’. Again, my translation…
