The hardest task a teacher once set me was to rid my apartment of every emotionally-charged object I had received from an ex-girlfriend, or anything from a friendship that now had negative associations. This was an ‘energy audit’ of sorts, going through my possessions to sense which ones held a toxic or unhealthy emotional connection. I resisted completing this for six months.
Something magical happened once I had finally purged the flotsam of loves past: my body felt lighter – my back, my stomach, my legs. More energy flowed through my home and ‘stuck’ energy was released from my physical being. Where I had first held back from disposing of certain old photographs, it was as if the rest now wanted to be released, and this subtle Feng Shui opened up a powerful space for new creative flow.
There is a spiritual principle that we can get closer to God by making space. The book of Leviticus is full of sacrifices and the Hebrew word for sacrifice (Korban) is directly related to the word for ‘drawing close’ (Kiruv). As we sacrifice things, we make space for the another – be it a person or God – and we can strengthen the relationship. As if to illustrate this, the very first word of Leviticus acts out this idea of making space: its final letter is smaller than the rest, symbolizing how we can make space if we are to receive Divine Inspiration.

Shalom friends. Would you like to Unleash Your Brilliance? To Achieve Greatness? Come along for the ride: Welcome to The One-Minute Kosher Sutra.
. We love stories of people who have fought and survived illnesses. We respect those who have sacrificed a part of themselves to achieve something greater. So how can we do the same?
The Book of Levitcus, Sefer Vayikra, opens with the words: “if any Man brings an offering of you to the Lord”, but it can be read as “if any person brings an offering of you” or indeed, “if you bring from within yourself a sacrifice to God” (Leviticus 1:1). As if to say when we sacrifice something of ourselves, sacrifice our petty desires, we can find a deeper connection with the Creator.
Todays pose is Downward-Facing Dog, Adho Mukha Svanasana. As you practice, allow the fire to burn within. What the yogis called “Tapas”. The Indian yogi Swami Vivekenanda told his followers “forget about your own salvation” and “see God in those who suffer, and for them sacrifice everything of yourself ”. Allow your entire practice to be your prayer.
The Hebrew name for Leviticus is “Vayikra” which means “And He Called”. When we sacrifice part of our ego, we create space to hear the word of God and take one step closer to a life filled with spiritual wealth.
