Hunger Games Catching Fire – Lessons from Chanukah
Today, we’re going to take inspiration from Hunger Games-Catching Fire and Hanukkah. Hunger Games, Hanukkah, let’s go.
Hi, I’m Marcus J. Freed. Welcome to Marcus Recommends. This is where we share great ideas, we celebrate life. It’s unscripted, unbiased, unrehearsed and it’s
coming to you live from the studio here in Los Angeles.
Today is a Hunger Games-themed episode of Marcus Recommends, hence the Hunger games Capitol couture, not complete with the eye shadow. Don’t forget it. What I really want to share with you is my idea about how you can achieve what’s truly important in your life and use these days right now to get crystal clear on it.
So first of all, two stories, two different setups. On the one hand, we’ve got Hunger Games Catching Fire. Now in Hunger Games very briefly you’ve got this girl, Katniss Everdeen, or young woman, and she’s out to fight basically for her life but really in the sequel, in Catching Fire, she begins and she’s the figurehead for a revolution albeit somewhat unwittingly. Over in the Hanukkah story, there are a group of fighters, the Maccabees , which is Hebrew for hammer, the Hasmonean family are now heading out to reclaim the temple which they’ve been booted outside of. So both of these stories, Hunger Games-Catching Fire and in Hanukkah, you’ve got fighters.
Fighting for your goals
Now I went to think for a second, where in your life are you feeling slightly dull? Where in your life are you feeling slightly disconnected? Where are you not in touch with what you want to be in touch with. Where are you separated from one of your goals?
I think for myself over my own life, there have definitely been times when I’ve had the equivalent of being booted out of my temple and not being allowed into my Capitol. For me, this has looked like—I don’t know—spending years talking about publishing a book before publishing it or talking about making videos before doing it, or launching business ventures.
But think about these different areas in your life where there’s something that you can fight for but you’re not currently fighting for. Have you got it? Something, an area where you’re feeling ah, I should be doing this. If only I had that.
So stage number one is to identify it. Stage number two is to really write it down. Name it. Tell other people about this thing that you want to achieve. Step number three is to work out what you need. What are the tools, the resources at your fingertips? What do you actually have to do? And step number four is to take action.
Chanukah, Hanukkah…light up the sky
Now during the nights of Hanukkah, we light candles every single night. Every culture has its own festival of light during this time of the year. There’s Christmas. We just had Divali/Diwali There’s Kwanzaa. There are many different festivals. This is our Ash Green festival. Think about getting back in touch with your flame. Get burning. Make sure that you are catching fire. Identify the thing that you want to pursue, you want to achieve. Take up your arms. Fight for it. Set yourself on fire and go and make the magic happen. Go and achieve it.
Let me know how you get on. Cheering you on as you get hotter and hotter…be the flame!
