Banished again?! Vanity of vanities,
Banished again?!
Vanity of vanities, irony of ironies,
I have just been thrown out of yet another one of my birthday gatherings.
This is now the third time. The first party was a few years ago
in Israel when I was having a party at a kosher burger king,
with a bunch of fellow rabbinical students. The manager ordered
us out when we started making human pyramids.
Then there was last year's house party in Jerusalem when I got
asked to leave by my co-host because of an obnoxious drunken incident
(can't quite remember why. it's a haze. that's my official story).
And then last night we were merrily drinking for my 29th in a
Hampstead bar when a massive fight broke out.
People smashing chairs and everything!
I know it was authentic 'cos I've done a Stage-Fighting course.
But the management then told everyone to leave.
What to say? My twenties have been eventful. One year of the
hellraising decade left :)
Today it was Christmas lunch for the anorexics at
the clinic where I teach. I made my excuses and left before the meal,
because it would have looked bad if I was the only person not eating.
I could have stayed and explained that 'I won't eat the Turkey
because it's not kosher', but there may have then been sudden rush
of potential converts...
Have a terrific festive season, whatever you're celebrating!
M
