Intention: What if we explore Biblical wisdom from a physical perspective, and look at the Torah as if it is a living, breathing guide to unlock our higher potential? The question, on one foot: How the Entire Bible is Happening In Your Body Right Now, How You Can Hear the Messages, Apply Them To Your Life, Experience Greater Power, Clarity & Fulfil Your Soul’s Mission”. How can we read The Energy Torah?
Context: Abram is told he will become a blessing. He moves his tent to various places, heads south to Egypt, returns with ‘gifts of silver & gold’. Joins a battle of four kings vs five kings. Rescues his nephew Lot. Fails to save the people of Sodom & Amorah. Engages in a supernatural sacrifice ritual which involves splitting a series of animals ~ as he does so the day gets suddenly dark & fire burns down.
My Only Question: How is a version of this story happening right now & how can the story unlock Divine powers that are already within you?
Commentary:
“God spoke to Avram” (Gen 12:1): This is the four-letter name of God which represents the human body (Yod = head, Hey = arms/shoulders, Vav = Torso, Hey = legs – see Sefer Bahir & Sefer Yetzirah). ‘Avram / Abram’ represents our greatness (Av = father, Ram = heights, literally ‘Father of the Heights’ within us…what are your great ideas?). Avram also represents our Lovingkindness. Kabbalah (Tikkun Zohar) identifies Abraham as the energy of lovingkindness and associates it with your right arm. Every time we read ‘Abram’ you could read ‘the Love within you’ or ‘the high (Ram) ideas that you father (Av)’, or your higher intentions, or suchlike. “God spoke to Avram” – the Divine Presence within you calling to your inner Lovingkindness or your inner greatness…to do something!
“Go to yourself / Lech Lecha” (Gen 12:1): The classic phrase can translate as “Go for yourself” or “Go to yourself”. We’ll go with the latter, a journey within.
“To the land / El Eretz” (Gen 12:1): We can read the word “land” as the times we align with the Divine will. The Baal Shem Tov explained (1) explain that Eretz (land) is related to Ratzon (Divine will), or the classic ‘running and returning’ (ratz v’shov) taught by Kabbalists, a kind of Divine AC/DC current that keeps us connected. So every Biblical mention of “land” – land of Israel, or land of Egypt, could on one level be read as an internal experience as we connect with God in our body(2). Through this lens, Israel is within us and Egypt is within us. Deep!
“Abram went up from Egypt towards the South” (Gen. 13:1). Consider the south as the lower extremities of the torso. Egypt/Mitzrayim translates as ‘the narrow place’, so we could imagine this as the parts of the body that are literally darker and narrower, behind the reproductive organs.
“retraced his route from the south until Beit El, the place where his tent was set up previously” (13.3) This is the journey in the opposite direction. Taking the lower, darker thoughts up the spine to ‘Beit El’ (“House of God”..where does God live in your body? If you had to pick the most explicit “God point” inside, where would it be?). This could be the pineal gland in the forehead (Peni-El means ‘the face of God’, spelled basically the same as Pineal, the clue is in the language. Later on we will hear how Jacob wrestles with the angel at this place Peni-El/ pineal…).
“Lot set up his tents as far as Sedom” (13:12). I don’t want to be too graphic, but Lot represents the thoughts that do not ascend up the spine to the crown chakra/third eye. He chose to live in the unenlightened place called Sedom. Sedom means secret, and the most secret place in the body is the..how do I put this delicately…the depth of the hidden valley ‘tween the buttocks.
“Abram was heavily laden with livestock, silver and gold..he retraced his route from the south until Beit El” (13:2-3). Av-Ram, the father of the heights, is able to go from the depths of darkness up to the place of enlightenment. In this reading, Avram is our inner alchemist, taking those base thoughts and turning them into gold.
Another angle to this reading is that it is a journey through the Tree of Life. A ‘tent’ is a sefirah, a Divine Sphere. Avram moves his ‘tent’ around, going down the Tree of Life and back up again. There’s so much more to say but I gotta ‘cap it. Other highlights – Avram joins a war of 4 kings vs 5 kings. So he makes 10..which represent the 10 sefirot. Each king has a metaphorical name, like Shin’av (‘hates Av’ or ‘hates Daddy’), Shem’Ever (‘the name of the limb’, or ‘there is a limb’), Emek HaSidim (translated usually as ‘the Valley of Sidim’, although it could also be read as “The Valley of Demons’ as the second word is a name of dark spirits), Malki Tzedek (“King of Justice” or “Master of Balance”). And so on and so on.
Ok, enough. You got things to do! Keep your thoughts ascending & turn lead into gold.
Shabbat Shalom. Love ya.
MJF.
